How do you price customer facing learning content?

Hi Everyone,

We are launching a new customer facing LMS and I've been asked to put together a launch plan for our CEO to review.

My question is: how do you determine how much to charge customers for learning content? What information should we gather to estimate ROI for customer-facing learning content?

We are a SaaS company, and our goal is to enable clients to become proficient end users of our products. This increases client satisfaction with our products while also saving time for our software consultants. In the future we are also interested in offering certifications/credentials.

I'd love to hear from anyone else who has successfully launched customer-facing learning platforms!

Thanks,
Patrick

This has been the question for the software industry for at least 50 years and SaaS has only complicated the answer.

The most successful pricing models that I have seen leverage "free" for the majority that simultaneously creates value for the minority in a manner that allows for value-based pricing. I am working on several projects now that are applying this approach.

I have worked with a number of founders on this question and there is no easy answer.  It depends on a number of different variables and there is no one right answer.

Many companies ultimately end up underpricing their content thinking the low price will entice customers. It rarely works especially when prices eventually increase since their prices are not sustainable.

I would be open to chatting with you so you can get some ideas

So, you want me to pay to learn how to use your product. You should be providing me with free training so I will like and recommend your product.

That's how many people feel about paying for training. Plus, there is probably some you on YouTube that will give it away for free.

To many providing training on their products is a cost of doing business today. With complex software and the complexity of other products manufactures needs to look at the cost of hosting an LMS and developing training as a cost of doing business in the modern world.

The first place a lot of people look to learn something is platforms like YouTube. What can i find that is quick, I can understand and is free.  If all else fails I go to paid training.
