 AI Disclosure in Courses

Hello!

I am in discussions with my company's general counsel and curious to see how others approach the issue of using AI generated/assisted content in material that will be copyrighted and sold. For those using AI to assist in the development of courses, particularly for courses that will be sold, how do you disclose the use of AI, if at all?

Just a few examples of how I've used AI to assist:

  • Developed scenario-based knowledge check questions around various legal/HR topics in Copilot. Those scenarios were vetted and edited, if necessary, by a staff attorney.
  • Use Articulate AI's "simplify" and "improve" writing feature to help turn legally dense statements into layman's terms.
  • Use Articulate AI's "summarize" lesson/course to jumpstart the process (Summarizing isn't my strongest skill).
  • Use Articulate AI's generate knowledge check to jumpstart the process (doesn't give the greatest options, but it's a starting point).

All source material is provided by staff experts. AI has been approved for use by staff, as long as we stick to certain guidelines.

Thanks!

Hello Aubrey

We looked at the copyright situation and decided not to use Articulate AI. I tried to set a policy to only use specific functions but was out voted by legal. I think, and you would need to check with your legal department that you can put a copyright on anything you create, or AI creates using your materials. If you are going out in the world of information which is where is AI pulls from, you will need to vet all that information to make sure it is not copyright protected first.

I think in the legal aspect we are entering a whole new world with copyright protection. I know if you look through these threads you can find a discussion on Articulate AL and some information on the copyright laws and how they are working in the Articulate world.

Good luck
